Fibroids, also known as uterine myomas, are compact and firm growths from the muscle of the uterus. They are made of smooth muscle cells and fibrous connective tissue.
A Myomectomy is the procedure by which fibroids are surgically removed. Removal of fibroids is recommended in women with symptoms that include:
- Abnormal uterine bleeding
- Pain during menstruation
- Pressure symptoms
- Infertility
A Laparoscopic myomectomy uses minimally invasive surgical techniques to remove uterine fibroids. The benefits of this technique include less postoperative pain, less potential for bleeding, and quicker recovery
You will be under general anesthetic during the procedure, so will feel no pain, and it generally takes 1-2 hours.
