An ovarian cyst is a closed sac-like structure which contains fluid that develops in or on the surface of the ovaries. Most types can be removed via minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery known as a Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy.
During this procedure, the cyst is removed without having to remove the entire ovary itself. Many instances of ovarian cysts are painless and don’t present with symptoms, however cysts that are large or growing, causing abdominal pain or bleeding, and specific types of other cysts, may require treatment/surgery.
During this procedure you’ll be under a general anesthetic so won’t feel any pain. It will take about 1-2 hours and the advantages of laparoscopic technique means quicker recovery and less post-operative discomfort.
