Hysteroscopic Myomectomy

Women with submucosal fibroids (fibroids in the uterine cavity) maybe eligible for hysteroscopic excision of those fibroids.

During this procedure, fibroids are removed using a hysteroscopic resectoscope, which is passed up into the uterine cavity through the vagina and cervical canal. In a standard resection, an electrosurgical wire loop is used to remove the fibroid.

This is a day-case / out-patient surgical procedure, meaning you can go home the same day as the operation after a few hours of recovery and observation. There are no scars left on the skin and the recovery time is normally only a few days.

Note that this technique for removing fibroids cannot be performed on fibroids within the uterine wall.
