At my King’s Clinic I offer IUD Insertions that can help for a range of symptoms or treatment options. This is an office based procedure.
One of the most common IUD’s we use is called Mirena. This is a form of hormonal IUD used to prevent pregnancy for a period of up to 5 years. Mirena releases a specific hormone called levonorgestrel to prevent conception. Liletta, Skyla, and Kyleena are some other hormonal IUDs used.
Why use an IUD insertion treatment
Insertions such as Mirena are performed to help decrease severe menstrual pain and pain related to the abnormal growth of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus (endometriosis). In addition they are used to avoid pregnancy
Risks of IUD insertion
- Changes in the menstrual bleeding pattern
- Breast tenderness
- Increased cramps and pain during periods
- Acne
- Nausea
- Enlarged ovaries
Hormonal IUDs such as Mirena can remain in place for up to 5 years, then they would need to be replaced.
