There are various situations where to ensure the safety for you or/and your baby, a cesarean birth is recommended. Cesarean’s maybe elective or unplanned /emergency due to unforeseen complications.
Risks
Cesarean deliveries are becoming more common however complications are rare. A cesarean is still considered a major surgery so it is not without risks that include:

- DVT – Blood clots in your legs

Many women although planning a natural vaginal birth end up having an emergency cesarean for many reasons outside of their control such as:
- The baby’s condition indicates that they need to be born asap
- The mothers progress in labour has stopped, even after attempting other interventions. Labour may stop due to the position of the baby
- Despite the baby being in a good position and contractions being strong, the labour still does not progress
- Complications of the mother’s health
- Issues with the baby’s growth what make it safer to avoid a vaginal birth
